Vehicle overhaul will heighten passenger comfort and safety…
Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation is modernizing 110 passenger rail coaches for Trenitalia (Italian Railways). The work covers comprehensive modernization services on the 30-year-old regional service rail coaches.
The units have already run more than 1 million km each. The overhauled coaches are expected to return to commercial service between April 2013 and November 2014.
The modernization includes upgrades to door systems, bogies and air conditioning systems, as well as installation of new interiors, electric and systems and a range of other improvements. Bombardier will modernize the vehicles at its rail services centre in Vado Ligure, Italy.
“This modernization is important for Italy as it will help to improve regional rail operations quickly and cost effectively and support Trenitalia in increasing the efficiency of its passenger services,”said Roberto Tazzioli, President and Chief Country Representative, Bombardier Transportation Italy. “There are numerous rail fleets in Italy today that require comprehensive overhaul. Bombardier holds a long tradition in this service line and its teams in Vado Ligure are ready to support Trenitalia.”
